We’d arranged to have one night in Vantaa (a suburb of Helsinki) as we knew we wouldn’t be getting there till after midnight. The next day we had to get the train to Lappeenranta where we were due to stop for a night.
The train journey from Helsinki to Lappeenranta takes about 2 hours and is very pleasant. It’s a nice introduction to what Finland has to offer. I’d always advise getting a train over a plane if you have the time as you get to see so much more.
We had our own private cabin on the train which was an unexpected bonus and an excellent way to sit back, relax and quietly enjoy the journey and wilderness of Finland.
