We flew into the fantastic city of Iquitos and spent a few nights there.
The main reason for visiting Iquitos was so we could explore the Northern Amazon Basin.
The banks of the Itaya River which merge into the Peruvian Amazon.
Locals on the river.
The point where the Itaya river meets the Amazon.
Shacks along the Itaya river.
Nothing better than just wandering around the world without a care in the world. I love seeing how other people live on a day to day basis.
Drying homemade mats in the sun.
Iquitos town.
The only way to travel. In the back of a Tuk Tuk.
Loved this little fella. Just sitting there not giving a monkey’s who gives him a little tickle on his head.
Drying a snakeskin n the sun.
Chowing down at the boat harbour.
Stop looking at his hair.
Chortle – Sardines called Fanny (no comment). Sorry about the blurry pic. Serena took this.
I drank shit loads of this stuff in South America.
Heading down the Amazon to the animal sanctuary.
Animal sanctuary
I don’t visit zoos or animal sanctuaries whilst travelling unless I know the animals are well looked after.
This place deep in the jungle had a very good reputation so I was happy to go there. I think Serena just wanted to chill out in our hotel on this day.
I went on a very quiet day, in fact, I think there were only a couple of other visitors there so they allowed me in to some of the enclosures to get a closure look at some of the animals.
I couldn’t resist the offer of holding this magnificent creature. Its weight was immense and you could really feel the power of this snake so I didn’t hold it for too long.
Here’s me struggling to pick up a very heavy Anaconda. I couldn’t stand up straight it was so heavy.
Manatees have incredibly soft skin which I didn’t expect. I could have stroked this little fella all day.
Get that down yer neck son.
This little monkey looks like he’s been on the booze.
Meet Terry the smiling fish.
And, here’s Terry’s mates.
