Fort Kochi is one of my favourite places to visit in India, and on my third visit, I enjoyed every minute once again. Located in the southwestern state of Kerala, this historic area is a charming blend of colonial heritage, vibrant culture, and relaxed seaside life.

Fort Kochi has a very chilled-out vibe, with narrow streets lined with colonial-era buildings, boutique cafes, and some excellent places to stay. The area is famous for its eclectic street art, which sits alongside centuries of history, from the Dutch and Portuguese colonial influences to the region’s spice trade heritage. Walking through its streets feels like stepping back in time, yet the art and local culture keep it wonderfully contemporary.

Most of the action takes place along the seafront, where the iconic Chinese fishing nets line the water’s edge, and boats bob gently in the harbour. Every evening, the area comes alive as children play football, families enjoy meals or take leisurely strolls, and everyone gathers to watch the breathtaking sunsets over the Arabian Sea. Fort Kochi perfectly combines history, culture, and a laid-back seaside atmosphere, making it a truly memorable destination for any visitor to India.
