Metropole Hotel, Standard Twin Room – Riga, Latvia

During our stay in Riga, we chose the Metropole Hotel, one of the city’s most historic and elegant hotels. It’s located right in the heart of Riga, just a short walk from the Old Town, the Central Market, and the train station, making it an ideal base for exploring the city on foot.

The Metropole is actually Riga’s oldest hotel, first opening its doors in 1871. Over the years it has hosted travellers, artists, and diplomats, and today it’s part of the Semarah Hotels group. The building has been beautifully restored, keeping its 19th-century charm while offering all the modern comforts you’d expect from a high-quality city hotel.

We stayed in a Standard Twin Room, which was comfortable, well-presented, and quiet. The décor combines traditional style with a touch of modern simplicity, warm lighting, neutral tones, and clean finishes throughout. The beds were comfortable, and the room included all the essentials: a desk, mini-bar, air conditioning, and a spotless bathroom with a good shower.

Our room looked out towards the city, and although it wasn’t large, it had everything we needed for a few nights’ stay. The staff were welcoming and efficient, and check-in was smooth and straightforward.

Breakfast is served in the hotel restaurant on the ground floor, offering a good range of hot and cold dishes, including fresh pastries, fruit, and coffee. It’s a great way to start the day before heading out to explore Riga’s cobbled streets, Art Nouveau district, and riverside walks.

You can watch my short video at the top of this page, which gives a simple look around our Standard Twin Room at the Metropole Hotel — a good choice if you’re after somewhere central, clean, and comfortable during your stay in Riga.

Overall, I’d recommend the Metropole for anyone wanting a reliable and conveniently located base in the city. It’s full of character, close to everything, and blends Riga’s historic atmosphere with modern comfort.
