I was sitting on the balcony of our hotel when I noticed a massive water monitor lizard basking in the sun on the bank of the stream. I grabbed my iPhone XS and hurried down, expecting to film just the one lizard. To my surprise, there was actually a group of five or six of them, all going about their day.
They were clearly aware of my presence, and several stared directly at me as I leaned over the bridge to film. Observing them for a couple of hours was fascinating, each lizard moving with purpose and confidence. The largest was truly impressive, measuring around four to five feet from nose to tail. It was an incredible experience getting so close to such powerful and ancient creatures in their natural environment.
