9/11 Ground Zero, New York | 2004

In 2004, Ground Zero was still very much a site of transformation and remembrance. The area where the World Trade Center towers once stood was a mix of construction, memorial planning, and reflection, capturing the city’s efforts to rebuild while honouring those lost in the 2001 attacks.

Visitors to the site at the time would have seen cranes, construction barriers, and workers preparing the foundations for new buildings, juxtaposed with makeshift memorials, flowers, and tributes from a grieving public. It was a space that conveyed both the enormity of the tragedy and the resilience of New York City.

Even in its transitional state, Ground Zero in 2004 was a place of reflection and remembrance, a poignant reminder of the city’s history and the collective determination to rebuild and move forward.
